Heart Failure
    by John Mulby

My heart is a lifeless muscle consumed by angst and dread
Although she lives and breathes, my soul mourns as if she were dead
My blood flows hot and slow like molten lead
Loathing sleep as her face is in the darkness of my head
It pains me to curse the day we wed
The vows we took the lies she said
I rather she had scorched my flesh instead
For this is a pain no cure no meds
Exhausted and weary I find no relief in bed
My heart is a lifeless muscle and this is my bitter end

My wife has abruptly forsaken me for another. I loved her deeply which made the pain more bitter.
