One Day
    by Barbara Kelsey

Under such artifacts
the world rifles by—
A hint of smoke in
The air—a trail of
Black as the lover is leaving—
A galaxy of dead hopes
Lie within
The carnal needs,
A priestess of light
Fragments the cold bliss.
One day he will
Die for you
And you will reminisce
How lovely grew the
Rose
How predacious
Was the love
How stoic was the heart.
And you will remember
his naked body
purpled against the dawn
When you pressed
Into the anchor of his back
and smelt the flesh fresh from
The troubled sleep
And how you caught the half
Awoken eye
Chained already to its dream
