Sonata in the Snow
    by Barbara  Kelsey

A talcum powder effect on the
   world

   A stubborn blanket of snow

   HOPE
There is a whole world waiting
    for a purified sign

the cross lies tarnished in the deep
    sea of hate

    the gods  shiver in their
    underworld

   pale from the shadows.
 A solitary bird sings
   a mystery song
   from the core of time
and the blood red Christmas rose
   blooms all winter
   in the golden light.
The still wine chills in the glass
and gives warmth to a life
and the winter star with its frozen smile
   points towards
   Calvary
   on this winter night.

Ms. Kelsey tells us "this poem is about the solitary birth of Christ, the hope that is given, but in the end death and deceit are waiting in the wings of life."
