U. M. C. Dreams

Here I am, high as an eagle
Staring at the computer all alone,
Wired into something like a life
That I used to know.

Desperately, I try
To create a life out of
Motion picture characters
And rock 'n roll philosophies.

It's so close to being real,
It's the only way I can still feel.
I want to close the door forever
I want to close my eyes . . .

And live out my

Upper-middle-class American dream,
Where life is best lived on a silver screen.
There's no need to leave the couch
When you've got remote control.
So many lives to choose from,
So many ways to sell your soul.

My life feels just like
A zoomed in digital image:
Just a bunch of random, colored squares
Shining on the TV screen tonight.

I wonder what would happen
If I zoomed out somehow.
What would the bigger picture look like?
Would it look like anything at all?

It's so close to being real,
It's the only thing I can still feel.
I want to lock the doors forever,
I want to numb my mind . . .

And live in my

Upper-middle-class American dream,
Where life is best lived on a silver screen.
There's no need to leave the couch
When you've got remote control.
So many dreams to choose from,
So many ways to drain your soul.
